RIP Magnolia Tree.. I will miss you...

so today... it was nice.. I am sick, but that doesn't stop me from checking my yard for any early Spring surprises... I decided to perform the 'scrape test' on my two trees and sadly my magnolia didn't make it. When I bought the tree, it had already had a rough summer and was sick when I bought it. I thought a tree marked down and sadly malnourished could survive... well it didn't. But on a happier note, the dwarf weeping willow made it and will have a bountiful year. I am eager to see how much it will produce in it's first full year in my yard.
Even though I am saddened the magnolia didn't make it, I do have another tree in mind. I have seen this tree all over the place but the one that really sticks out is located in Walla Walla on the corner of Tony's Sub Shop. I call it a sporadic beauty, because it doesn't had a uniformed look.

Here is what my magnolia looked like after planting, you can already see some of the dead leaves...

I have a thing for weeping trees... here is what I really want to put in the magnolia's place... I could go on and on about weeping trees.. now that I think of it.. I want to put a couple in my front bed area and in other areas... hell... can I just buy a few acre's, build my dream house, and landscape from scratch???

With proper reinforcements and pruning I could get one to look like this in my back yard... that will be my summer planing goal...
